This course aims to provide students a comprehensive introduction to the research methods in social sciences by focusing on the contemporary debates going on around the research design, methodology, data collection and analysis. At the end of this semester, the course aims the students to develop necessary analytical research skills to conduct scholarly research for their graduate dissertations. 

The primary course objective is to develop student’s understanding of key political phenomena related to contemporary Balkans and to develop critical skills towards political issues in the Balkans. By the end of the course the student will be able to learn the historical background of the Balkans and contemporary Balkan issues. More specifically the student will be able to examine inter-ethnic tensions in the Balkans, great power policies towards the region, issues amongst Balkan states, dissolution of Yugoslavia and its consequences, etc.
