The main objective of this course is to

  • teach students fundamental knowledge about spacecraft thermal control,
  • educate them how to apply this knowledge for spacecraft thermal design and analysis,
  • be a systems engineer of space vehicle design team.

Course Content: Introduction to space vehicles. Space thermal environment. Heat transfer principles. Passive and active thermal control hardware. Derivation of conduction and radiation parameters and discretization. Thermal analysis. Thermal test and verification.   

The main objective of this course is to

  • teach students fundamental knowledge about rocket systems and spacecraft propulsion systems,
  • educate them how to apply this knowledge for space vehicle propulsion, 
  • encourage them to do research in space propulsion.

Course content:

Aerothermodynamic performance evaluation of air and spacecraft propulsive systems. Rocket propulsion with solid, liquid and hybrid propellant systems. Chemistry of combustion. Burning rates for solid and liquid propellants, components of solid and liquid rocket engines. Flight performance, maneuver and attitude control for spacecraft. Rocket propulsion system design and selection. Rocket exhaust plumes and its effects. Rocket testing. 

The main objective of the course is to introduce the fundamentals of space systems and spacecraft design. The course structure is conceived to provide technical knowledge on key elements of space systems and practical methods for mission design and operations.

The course objective is to provide the student with a solid understanding of propulsion systems and performance analyses. 

The student who succeed the course shall be able to;

  • describe the principles of various propulsion system designs and operations,
  • relate the design of propulsion system components to the overall system performance,
  • analyze the performance of various types of propulsion systems for atmospheric and space flights.
