This course offers students the opportunity to learn and apply simultaneous interpretation techniques to a variety of topics and settings. Students interpret conference speeches dealing with politics, current affairs, medicine, international news, etc. The students who succeed in this course are expected to develop memory and retention skills; acquire dual task skills including listening and producing the same message in the target language; improve analytical thinking skills covering the skills to understand the basic points of the messages embedded in the conference or any kind of speech text; learn and apply basic simultaneous interpreting strategies such as generalization, omission, chunking; develop skills regarding how to manage  their stress during simultaneous interpreting in booth and how to cooperate with their colleagues in the booth, enhance their terminology knowledge by practicing with speeches (TED Talks, European Commission, American Rhetoric etc.) on various topics.
