CMPE 556 presents artificial intelligence through the rational-agent perspective. The course begins with agents and task environments, then develops problem formulation and systematic search using uninformed, informed, local, stochastic, evolutionary, and constraint-based methods. It next addresses adversarial search and game playing before moving to multi-agent interaction, coordination, negotiation, and collective decision making. The final part examines swarm-intelligence methods - particle swarm optimization, artificial bee colony optimization, and ant colony optimization - and concludes with the philosophical, ethical, safety, and societal implications of AI.
